The Opera Studio is a programme of education for young singers created in 2004. The programme holds as a reference the programme at Theatre Royale de la Monnaie from Brussels, Opera Studio has a differential that is to combine acting on stage all the way to vocal coaching.
The two-year course is a regular programme of the advanced cycle at EMESP Tom Jobim and includes history of opera, repertoire, pronunciation, diction and interpreting, theatre and body technique for singers. Upon the end of the year, the work developed with students of lyric singing will result in the production of a pocket opera.
Opera Studio offers training on opera repertoire. In order for all students to have the opportunity to be soloists, the choice of titles is thought taking into account the number of interpreters. The repertoire selection and language is made taking into account the pedagogic character. The following pieces have been done: Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro; Britten’s Albert Herring; Auber’s Le Domino Noir; Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld and Tales of Hoffman; Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma; Strauss II’s The Bat; Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims. In 2016, the title of choice was Don Giovanni, by Mozart.
